The Mavericks don't plan to immediately hit the trade market in the wake of Caron Butler's knee injury, according to sources.
They may be forced to make a move eventually, especially if Butler's out for the remainder of the season, but they plan to give their deep roster a chance to play without the forward.
Dallas will be able to apply for a disabled player exception worth half of Butler's $10.6 million salary if he does miss the rest of the season.
