Dwyane Wade scored 29 points in Miami's 88-86 Game 3 win over the Mavericks on Sunday.
Wade scored 7 points in the final 6 minutes 31 seconds and also setup Chris Bosh for the game-winning shot.
The Heat now have an edge in the series if history is to be repeated.
Since the N.B.A. adopted the 2-3-2 format, there have been 11 times when the finals have been tied 1-1. The Game 3 winner has won the championship every time.
“You respect numbers and you respect history,” LeBron James said in the morning before the game. “But Game 3 is its own. We can’t worry about a series, a Game 4, Game 5.”
