Free agent guard Austin Rivers has engaged in strong discussions on a contract to re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources told RealGM.

The two sides began progressing toward terms on Friday, sources said.

After joining the Clippers in a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans last season, Rivers averaged 7.1 points, 1.7 assists and 19.3 minutes over 41 games. He scored 8.4 points per game in the postseason — including a 25-point, six-rebound, six-assist performance against the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference semifinals.

The No. 10 overall pick in the 2012 draft, Rivers has averages of 6.9 points and 2.2 assists in his three NBA seasons.
