Ryan McDonough's inability to find a starting point guard for the Phoenix Suns was the "final straw" for Robert Sarver to part ways with him as general manager before the start of the season.

The Suns traded away Eric Bledsoe at the beginning of the 17-18 season and were unable to replace him over the offseason.

In the years since trading Steve Nash to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Suns have cycled through Bledsoe, Goran Dragic, Brandon Knight and Isaiah Thomas at point guard.

Several sources characterized McDonough prioritized job security ahead of personal conviction while on the job.
