The Brooklyn Nets have waived guard Edmond Sumner. The Nets recently acquired Sumner and a 2025 second round pick from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for the draft rights to Juan Pablo Vaulet.

Brooklyn made two deals on the day they traded for Sumner. The first was to clear a roster spot, and to create a traded player exception, by sending Sekou Doumbouya and a 2024 second round pick to the Houston Rockets. The second deal was to acquire Sumner from the Pacers. The two trades saved the Nets over $6 million in actual dollars, due to Brooklyn facing steep luxury tax penalties.

Sumner is out for the season due to a torn Achilles' tendon suffered this offseason.
