The NBA will soon begin negotiating a new deal for their media rights. Over the last several years, the NBA has partnered with ESPN/ABC and Turner to broadcast their games. An attempt to create a third package of rights for FOX Sports was blocked by ESPN and Turner, as they wanted to keep the rights to themselves.

That's expected to change in this series of negotiations. That change is likely to come via a streaming package. While ESPN and Turner could remain involved, it's expected the NBA will spin off an additional package of games to a leading steaming service.

Amazon and Apple are both assumed to have interest in adding the NBA to their services. Amazon already steams NFL games and has partnership with the New York Yankees. Apple is streaming select MLB games on Friday nights and has the full rights to the MLS.
