The Detroit Pistons are reportedly taking a conservative approach to NBA trade season. Rather than going all-in now, Detroit is content to see what they have in the young core that has built the best record in the Eastern Conference.
One move the Pistons are expected to make is to convert guard Daniss Jenkins to a standard deal. Jenkins is in his second year as a two-way player for Detroit and has been a rotation regular this season. On the season, Jenkins is averaging 7.5 points and 3.0 assists in 16.2 minute per game.
The Pistons currently do not have an open roster spot to sign Jenkins to a standard deal. However, GM Trajan Langdon could create and open spot via a trade ahead of the February 5 deadline. Detroit could also waive Isaac Jones, who is on a non-guaranteed deal until January 7 (all contracts become guaranteed if the player is not waived by January 7). Jones has not figured in JB Bickerstaff's rotation since he was claimed off waivers in early November.
