LeBron James has yet to determine whether he will play a 24th NBA season, but he continues to receive significant interest across the league at the age of 41.

"I wouldn't say that's something that's been determined," said ESPN's Shams Charania when asked if James has made a decision on continuing his career or retirement. "Honestly, I think LeBron, more than in past years, probably needs even more time with his family and his inner circle [to make that decision].

"I do know that a lot of teams are calling him and his camp. I spoke with Rich Paul at the Chicago draft combine last week, and he told me that essentially every contender in the NBA has placed a call since the season ended. So that line is going to continue to be open.

"But listen, all indications throughout the season have been that LeBron is going to play another year. We'll see if that remains true. He's got to take that time. We've never seen this before at 41 years old. I think if he decided to step away, no one would hold it against him. But the expectation has been that you're probably going to get one more year out of him, and we'll see whether it's with the Lakers or somewhere else.

"Being in LA, having that comfort, and knowing the Lakers want him, I think all of those factors do play a part."

Unlike 2010 and 2014 when James was a free agent in his prime and teams lined up cap space to pursue him, the NBA's contenders do not have the required cap space to sign him outright at a number similar to the $52.6 million he made this past season with the Lakers. Because of these circumstances, James' decision will likely come down to returning to the Lakers at a slightly lower number or a massive discount for another team.
