Wizards Sign Shakur For Remainder Of Season

Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has signed guard Mustafa Shakur.

Shakur will be signed for the remainder of the season after being signed to two separate 10-day contracts earlier in the season (first on January 22 and then on February 12). He averaged 3.3 points and 2.2 assists in six games during that stretch.

Nets Sign Sundiata Gaines To 10-Day Contract

The New Jersey Nets have signed free agent guard Sundiata Gaines to a 10-day contract, Nets General Manager Billy King announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.

Gaines has appeared in six games with Toronto and eight games with Minnesota this season. In his 14 appearances, Gaines averaged 4.0 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.2 assists in 11.0 minutes per contest.

Warriors Sign Jeff Adrien

The Golden State Warriors have signed forward Jeff Adrien to a contract, the team announced Friday. 

Adrien is being called up from the NBA Development League’s Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Adrien, 25, began the season with Golden State and appeared in 15 games for the Warriors, averaging 2.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in 10.8 minutes per contest.  He was waived on December 9, 2010, and joined the D-League’s Erie BayHawks for five games before being traded to Rio Grande Valley.

Grizzlies Sign Carney To 10-Day Contract

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed swingman Rodney Carney to a 10-day contract, Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today.

A four-year star at the University of Memphis, the 6-7, 205-pound guard/forward returns to the Bluff City after averaging 5.0 points on .421 shooting (45-of-107 FG), including a career-best .459 mark from three-point range (17-of-37 3FG), in 13.2 minutes in 25 games for the Golden State Warriors earlier this season. The Warriors waived Carney on Jan. 4.

Currently in his fifth NBA season, the 26-year-old owns career averages of 6.0 points and 2.0 rebounds on .422 shooting in 15.5 minutes in 297 games (48 starts) with the Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers.

Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld announced Saturday that the team has signed guard Mustafa Shakur to a second 10-day contract. 

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not announced. 

Shakur originally signed with Washington on January 22.  In four games for the Wizards, Shakur averaged 3.5 points and 3.0 assists per game.

Spurs Sign Steve Novak

The San Antonio Spurs signed forward Steve Novak of the Reno Bighorns for the eighth Call-Up of the 2010-11 NBA Development League season. Novak’s call-up increases the number of current NBA players with NBA D-League experience, including players currently on assignment to their NBA D-League affiliates, to 87.

Novak played in two games with Reno, averaging 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 29.5 minutes. Novak also appeared in nine games with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in 2007-08 while on assignment from the Houston Rockets, averaging 18.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

Grizzlies Officially Sign Jason Williams

The Memphis Grizzlies signed free agent guard Jason Williams, Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Williams, who played four seasons in Memphis from 2001-05, is the franchise’s all-time assists leader (2,041).

Williams posted 2.1 points, 1.5 assists and 1.4 rebounds in 10.7 minutes in 16 games this season for Orlando.

Raptors Sign Trey Johnson To Second 10-Day Contract

The Raptors have signed guard Trey Johnson to a second 10-day contract.

He signed his original 10-day contract on Jan. 26.

Johnson has averaged 4.0 points and 1.6 assists in five games with Toronto.

Suns Sign Dowdell For Remainder Of Season

The Suns signed Zabian Dowdell to a contract for the remainder of the season on Sunday.

Dowdell went undrafted in 2007 out of Virginia Tech and has played in Europe, the D-League and twice for the Phoenix summer league teams.

"He's played unafraid and, to me, that's the big thing," Suns coach Alvin Gentry said. "Obviously, he's made a few mistakes here and there, but I think overall he's done a good job for us and played well. He gives us that guy in practice so we don't have to wear Steve out. It makes sense to have him here."

Warkentien Hired As Director Of Player Personnel For Knicks

Donnie Walsh announced today that the Knicks have named Mark Warkentien as director, pro player personnel. In this role, Warkentien will consult Walsh on preparation for the NBA Draft, have scouting assignments and will advise on personnel moves.
 
“Mark is an excellent basketball operations executive and we are pleased to add him to our staff of highly accomplished executives and scouts,” Walsh said. “Mark will serve as a consultant and adviser and I look forward to working with him.”

Warkentien most recently served as vice president of basketball operations for the Denver Nuggets, where he was named NBA Executive of the Year following the 2008-09 season.
