Wade Slow To Recover From Knee Surgery

Sep 30, 2012 11:05 AM

Dwyane Wade has been slow to recover from knee surgery in early July.

Projected recovery time was four to six weeks, with the Saturday start of training camp marking 11 ½ weeks of rehabilitation.

Wade still isn’t 100 percent and will likely miss the team’s October preseason games.

“I understand that it’s a process and I’m going to take that process and be … I’ve been here before, guys, so I know what to do. I’ll be all right,” Wade said. “I went all the way around the block just to go next door.”

The Heat declined to put a timeline on Wade’s return to full strength.

“I’m just strictly looking at him big picture,” Erik Spoelstra said. “I don’t have a specific plan for him in training camp of how many days. We’re going to read and react to it.”

76ers Still Intend To Improve Analytics Use In Front Office

Sep 28, 2012 10:25 AM

The Philadelphia 76ers frequently talked about adding a front office executive well-versed in analytics.

However, the 76ers eventually settled on a traditional general manager in Tony Di Leo.

“I have a formula that I have been using,” DiLeo said, “but what we are planning will take it to a whole different level of advanced analytics.  That’s the approach the ownership group has. They want to make sure that our front office has every advantage. It’s important to them to make sure that nobody is better prepared to make decisions.”

The 76ers want to hire someone to ascribe value to draft picks, free agents and any other parts of the process that go beyond traditional player evaluation.

“You can’t let it dominate your decisions; there has to be a happy marriage,” is how DiLeo described it.

Warriors To Allow Biedrins To Compete For Minutes

Sep 28, 2012 10:04 AM

Andris Biedrins hasn't arrived yet to the Golden State Warriors' voluntary workouts.

The center position has become more crowded this season, with Andrew Bogut and Festus Ezeli also on the depth chart.

“Because it’s a result-driven business, Andris will be allowed to come in and compete for his position,” said general manager Bob Myers. “He’s a professional, and I’ll leave it to the coach to decide what (Biedrins’) role will be. I’m going to try and be neutral on him not coming, and I’m going to be positive on the guys who did come. But he’s shown that he can be an effective player in the NBA. I’m going to let it play out on Andris, and I’m hoping that he comes into camp and is ready to go. I’m not going to judge him until we’ve seen him in the preseason and see what he can do.”

Myers said he doesn’t know if Biedrins can be traded or bought out.

Del Negro, Clippers Have No Urgency On Extension

Sep 27, 2012 12:34 PM

Vinny Del Negro has assumed a bigger role within the Los Angeles Clippers' organization, but he is also in the final season of his contract.

"I think there's always pressure, but I think that's a position that you want to be in," said Del Negro.

"My goal coming here was to help change the environment, change the culture and change the direction of the organization."

The Clippers went 40-26 in the regular season and Del Negro took them to the second round of the playoffs.

Del Negro said there has been "a little bit" of discussion about his contract extension, but there is "no sense of urgency for either side" to get a deal done right away.

"Of course, I wish it was under maybe a different situation," Del Negro said. "But I was on a one-year deal last year and I'm still here and enjoying myself and believe in what we're doing. I think all those things work themselves out over time."
