Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel writes: It's NBA draft night or -- as it's now known in these parts -- Antonio Davis Fund Raising Night.

The Magic have decided they will not insult Davis by trying to lure him with the puny $4.5 million exception. Having spent their inheritance last summer on Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady, they know they probably have to somehow clear twice that much salary to sign him.

And Davis is the choice, because the Magic now believe Chris Webber will stay put in Sacramento.

Might Gabriel offer Mike Miller, Bo Outlaw, Michael Doleac and two picks so they eventually can sign Davis and solve Orlando's debilitating rebounding woes? The Magic want to get this done without losing Miller, reigning rookie of the year, and not upset Mike's best buddy, McGrady. That notion is listed as doubtful.

Tonight might tell you whether the Magic can land Davis and become serious contenders or whether they'll be stuck with basically the same pedestrian big men.
