Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald writes about the new rules and what the supports and opponents have to say about them.

In Heat News, The Heat has offered the $1 million veteran's minimum to Cavs free agent center Chris Gatling, who's mulling the offer. Gatling has said he would like to play for Miami. The Heat also has contacted Jazz free agent center Olden Polynice as a fallback plan. Miami hasn't ruled out re-signing A.C. Green if it cannot get anybody better.

The Heat, already deep in shooting guards and small forwards, has expressed interest in free-agent swingmen Scott Burrell and Johnny Newman. Talks with Burrell are ongoing. Miami also is interested in adding free agent Erick Strickland, who can play both guard positions.
