The New York Times reports that Larry Johnson's buyout could come anytime between now and Friday. The Knicks hope to receive another Disabled Player Exception from the league. However, the league may determine that Johnson's injury occured prior to June 30, as was the ruling with Luc Longley. As such, the Knicks received the injury exception on September 28 and had to use it or lose it by October 1.

If the league rules that Johnson's injury occured prior to June 30, the Knicks may not receive a Disabled Player Exception. The Times reports that Knicks GM Scott Layden is trying to acquire a center or power forward via a trade but has been unable to pry away Portland's Dale Davis or Utah's Greg Ostertag.
