The Orlando Magic broke a long-standing but unofficial NBA rule Friday night: They played defense in a preseason game.

Largely out of necessity, the Magic applied the clamps to Charlotte and beat the Hornets 91-85 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.

Their offense misfiring, as offenses tend to do during the exhibition season, the Magic held the Hornets to four-of-18 shooting and 16 points in the third quarter.
