After signing Jason Williams to a six-year extension, the Grizzlies are now trying to lock up Michael Dickerson for the long-term.  The Commercial Appeal's Ron Tillery reports they have until Nov. 1 to sign the four-year veteran to an extension.

"We're optimistic that something's going to get done," general manager Bill Knight said.  Similarly, Dickerson's agent, Mark Bartlestein, said his client wants to remain in Memphis.

A starting value of $4 million for Dickerson would see the Grizzlies already committed to over $50 million in contracts for the 2002/03 season.  If their pre-season success continues, this summer could be as good as the Raptors' summer for securing the future.  But if they revert to previous form, they'll find themselves locked into a lot of contracts that make improving the team nearly impossible for several seasons.
