In all likelihood, the Seattle SuperSonics probably should not have even been in overtime against the Miami Heat.

After all, they flew across the country, played a 58-minute double overtime game Monday night in Orlando, arrived in Coconut Grove at 2:30 in the morning and had to be at the arena 14 hours later.

So despite the fact that Gary Payton's 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer rimmed out and sent the Sonics to an 87-85 loss in yet another thrilling game, they could not be all that upset.

"As I told the team, we got beat playing our game," Sonics coach Nate McMillan said. "If you play hard, and you play with the type of intensity that we showed, and they beat you, they beat you. We didn't give them that game. They had to win that game. And that is how you want to leave the floor."

Seattle's 2-3 record came about because Miami's Eddie Jones made an incredible shot with 1.7 seconds left, giving the victory to the Heat (2-2), who were playing without center Alonzo Mourning (food poisoning).
