Eduardo Najera is a pet rock.
He?s a Chia Pet, a Beanie Baby, a Bobblehead Doll.
And a pretty damn good basketball player.
Najera, seen by some as a good-natured mascot, a Mexican-born marketing gimmick, a blue-collar PR tool, was pivotal to Dallas? 105-91 runaway over Denver on Thursday at the American Airlines Center. Vaulting immediately from an injury-prone summer, a subpar preseason and Wednesday?s injured list, Najera exploded back onto the Dallas roster with an energetic nine points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots in 19 pain-in-the-Nuggets?-ass minutes. The effort ? somewhat of a surprise to a Dallas coaching staff that originally intended to just give the second-year second-rounder a cup o? playing-time coffee ? was reminiscent of the work Najera did early last year, when the then-rookie actually earned an opening-night start.
Said teammate Juwan Howard: ?That was an unbelievable performance for a guy who hasn?t played in a while. He was told at game time that he was going to be activated and that goes to show you that he?s a guy that?s always ready to play.??
