The Sonics would have gotten more use out of a spa than its training facility yesterday.

Ailing from a plethora of injuries, the team didn't hold a formal practice. Instead players lifted weights to break a sweat, shot a few hoops and spent the rest of their time receiving massages and soaking in the whirlpool.

All while spreading the word that Sonics Coach Nate McMillan might give them their first day off tomorrow if they can defeat the Phoenix Suns tonight at KeyArena.

"Everybody is really tired," said guard Desmond Mason. "We need the rest, but we need the win, also."

Guard Shammond Williams, who missed Seattle's opening eight games with a fractured ring finger, was cleared to play. Wearing a bandage on his left hand, Williams ran through inside plays with posts Antonio Harvey, Jerome James and Olumide Oyedeji.

Despite having not practiced with the team since injuring his hand during training camp, Williams could be activated today. He averaged 6.8 points and 2.8 assists last season.
