The Magic traded forward Bo Outlaw and a first-round draft choice to the Phoenix Suns Friday, acquiring forward Jud Buechler and an upgraded second-round pick in 2005.

It was part of a three-team transaction in which the Suns sent guard Vinny Del Negro to the Los Angeles Clippers.

The draft pick traded by the Magic originally belonged to Phoenix. It had been sent to the Magic in 1999 as part of the sign-and-trade deal involving Penny Hardaway.

The 6-foot-8 Outlaw was in his fifth season with the Magic, longer than anyone except Darrell Armstrong. He ranks fourth on the franchise's rebound list with 1,977 and second in blocked shots with 518. He started 69 games last season, but has averaged only 16 minutes in 10 games this season.

"This is the tough side of the business," said Coach Doc Rivers. "Bo was certainly more than just a player to us. In Jud we have added another shooter who has been to where we want to go (Buechler was part of three Chicago Bulls championships)."

The 6-6 Buechler was drafted in 1990 by New Jersey with a second-round pick the Magic had included in a trade to Seattle for the rights to Dennis Scott.

Outlaw, who was undrafted and played in the CBA before signing with the Clippers in 1993, signed with Orlando in 1997. He was the Magic's third-highest paid player and has four years remaining on a contract that pays him $6 million this season. Buechler makes $3.7 million on a contract that will expire in 2003, the same season as the contracts of Patrick Ewing and Horace Grant. General Manager John Gabriel is trying to clear salary-cap room to make a run at a big man that summer.
