When the final buzzer sounded, Memphis forward Pau Gasol hurled the ball 40 feet into the air, and it came down into the hands of Cavaliers television announcer Austin Carr. But Carr handed the ball back so it can go into the Grizzlies' trophy case.

After eight consecutive losses, the Grizzlies recorded their first win since moving to Memphis from Vancouver after last season. They did it in dramatic fashion, storming back from a 13-point deficit midway through the third quarter to beat the Cavs 98-93 before 13,874 at The Pyramid.

As music blared in the arena and fans jumped up and down, Cavs coach John Lucas stared expressionless from his bench for at least a minute. But he became emotional when he got to the locker room.

``I was (ticked) off,'' Lucas said. ``I was angry because it was the defensive end of the ball. We're not that much better than the Grizzlies, but we stopped guarding people.''

The Cavs, whose 2-9 start is their worst since they began 1-10 in 1984-85, must have forgotten Memphis forward Stromile Swift was still on the roster after he had just four first-half points. But after starting center Lorenzen Wright was lost early in the third quarter with a back injury, Swift had 13 of his 17 points in the second half.
