Former Ohio State All-American and Cavaliers guard Jim Jackson came close to sporting a Memphis Grizzlies uniform for tonight's game in Gund Arena.

Jackson, 31, was scheduled to fly to Memphis on Friday, for talks with Grizzlies officials. He canceled the trip. "We gave it some thought," said Jackson's Cleveland agent Mark Termini, "but decided it was not the right situation."

Jackson stood to make $800,000, the minimum for a player with nine years experience.

Other teams - including the Miami Heat - are interested in Jackson, whose previous NBA stops include Dallas, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Golden State, Portland and Atlanta. In 39 games with the Cavaliers last season, Jackson averaged 10.3 points, shooting 38.7 percent from the field.

Another former Cavaliers guard and Termini client, Ron Harper, is an unsigned free agent.

Harper, 37, was not re-signed by the NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers during the off-season. In 15 NBA seasons, his first 3? with the Cavaliers, Harper has collected five championship rings - three with the Chicago Bulls, and two with the Lakers.

"At this point in Ron's career," said Termini, " he is not going to play for just anyone. He wants to go to a team that has a chance to win."
