The Boston Globe has an important piece about Shareef Abdur-Rahim and how his Muslim faith has inspired him to contribute to America's efforts in these troubled times.  Shareef quietly goes about his business on the court and in the community -- representing the true spirit of Islam.  Since the September tragedy, Shareef has been extremely active yet typically low key in talking to everyone he can about this subject.

He launched Rebound America, donating $100 for every rebound he collects this season to relief efforts and assistance to those impacted by the attacks.  As he put it, "I've been blessed a lot and I have the opportunity to give something back. Some people can donate time. I've been blessed with finances, and so I can give back in that way."

He convinced several NBA players to join him, enlisting Stephon Marbury ($100 per assist), Alonzo Mourning ($100 per block), Damon Stoudamire ($100 per assist), Brian Grant ($100 per rebound), and Gary Payton ($100 per assist). Asked about getting Antoine Walker to donate $100 for every field goal attempt, Abdur-Rahim shrugged and said, "That's a good idea, I'll have to talk to him about it."

On Monday. Abdur-Rahim will visit Ground Zero and ring the bell to open the New York Stock Exchange.  In typical Reefian fashion he says, "I just hope that I don't ring the bell too loud or too soft.  It's an honor.  A great honor."
