It's a feeling of security, on par with a well broken-in pair of jeans or a snug blanket for a winter's nap.
The Pistons feel good this season when their starters come out of a game, confident that the bench is going to perform well.
The Piston bench tops the NBA in scoring, adding 33.9 points per game on average. They've outscored the opposition in 40 of 52 games this season.
"We want to come in the game and make a difference, we're not just holding down the fort," said forward Corliss Williamson, who is making a push for the NBA Sixth Man award. "We come in with our own system in a way. We want to push the defense, push the offense. We feel like our own unit. We have fun out there."
Williamson is third on the team in scoring, averaging 12.8 points per game.
The bench rotation of Williamson, Zeljko Rebraca, Jon Barry and Damon Jones manages to find the solution for what the Pistons need.
