Michael Lee of the AJC writes that although they are geographically NBA neighbors the Hawks and the Hornets aren't really rivals of any kind.

In fact, the most intense moment in the NBA's Battle of the South resulted in a suspension, bruised egos and the dampened spirits -- and clothes -- of some unsuspecting fans.

It happened on March 24, 1990, in the old Omni arena. The Hawks were in the midst of whipping the Charlotte Hornets 122-109 when Harry the Hawk, never one to cower, sought out his prey and made some new enemies. He found a group of Charlotte fans sitting behind the rim and doused them with a cup of water (although some still dispute that it was beer).
