Nets fans don't want to be reminded of this, but Jason Kidd can opt out of his contract after next season. Kidd has repeatedly said he'd take advantage of the opportunity.

A plethora of teams can fall under the salary cap and try to lure Kidd away from the swamps. No less than Miami, San Antonio, Washington and Indiana could break out the candy and roses for Kidd and his family.

But Fred Kerber of the New York Post writes that Rod Thorn is confident Kidd return to New Jersey. "To me, if we're a good team, I think he will [re-sign]," the Nets' VP of Operations said confidently. "If he thinks we're going to be a good team and we'll play in these big games like we're playing in this year, to me, I think he'll come back and sign with us. We've made a pretty good run here. He's been a big part of it, obviously. He's gone to another level as a player since he's been with us."

When the Nets swapped Stephon Marbury, signed long-term, for Kidd, Thorn said he knew it was a gamble "but a gamble worth taking, definitely."
