Chris Broussard of the New York Post reports that Knicks GM Scott Layden is burning up the phone lines trying to make a trade before Wednesday?s draft. But indications are that nothing significant will happen.

According to an Eastern Conference official, the Knicks have been shopping Marcus Camby and Latrell Sprewell, but very few teams are interested ? at least to the point of offering quality players in return. Camby?s trade value has dropped significantly after suffering through yet another injury-plagued season. Sprewell is getting to the point where his age (32) and his contract (3 years, $40.5 million remaining) are diminishing his return. Bad teams in the process of rebuilding are not interested in him. Playoff teams looking for the right piece may want him, but are not likely to offer equal value.

The Knicks keep hearing that players they covet, like Lamar Odom, Baron Davis and Andre Miller, are available. However, the Clippers have told the Knicks repeatedly that Odom is not on the block. And if Miller and Davis are truly on the market, their current clubs can probably get much more than the Knicks have to offer.

The Knicks will look to improve in Wednesday?s draft. They were pretty sure that Chris Wilcox will be available to them with the number seven pick, but after his impressive workouts this week, they fear he may be gone before they can get him.

If Wilcox and the Kansas power forward Drew Gooden are gone, the Knicks may take Butler or the Memphis point guard Dajuan Wagner. Taking Butler would necessitate the trading of Sprewell, while selecting Wagner would fail to address the team's lack of size.
