Disaster struck the Knicks at the usually sedate Boston Pro Summer League. Rookie point guard Frank Williams could miss all of training camp and the first two weeks of the regular season with a fractured left wrist, possibly turning his first year into a waste.
The Knicks announced last night Williams, their first-round pick taken at No. 25, will need surgery today to repair a non-displaced fracture of the scaphoid in his left wrist on his non-shooting hand.

The Knicks believe the former Illinois stud will miss anywhere from nine weeks to four months, depending on how successful the surgery at Beth Israel Hospital goes.

Williams injured the wrist trying to brace his fall after setting a pick in Tuesday night's double-overtime loss to Minnesota.

Marc Berman writes that at best, Williams will be back slightly before training camp that begins in early October. But clearly the devastating injury will retard Williams' progress, ending his summer-league stint and may have the Knicks searching for a free agent point guard.
