As reported on Bucks.com, the Milwaukee Bucks have signed guard Michael Redd to a multi-year contract, Bucks General Manager Ernie Grunfeld announced today. Redd had signed a $12 million offer sheet with the Dallas Mavericks on October 1. Because he is a restricted free agent, the Bucks had 15 days to determine whether to match the Mavericks offer..

?Basketball-wise this was a very easy decision. We have said all along that we wanted to keep Michael on this team,? Grunfeld said. ?He is a person of great character, a hard worker and a winner who will be instrumental to our team?s success.?

?This took longer than we would have hoped because of the financial issues we had to work through,? Grunfeld said, ?but at the end of the day, Senator Kohl showed his commitment to winning and to this community by keeping Michael on this team.?

Redd, a second round selection of the Bucks in 2000 (43rd overall), enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2001-02. He appeared in 67 games, averaging 11.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per contest and was among the league?s leading three-point shooters (8th overall, 44.4 percent).

?I?m excited,? Head Coach George Karl said, ?This has already been one of our best training camps in terms of effort, commitment and positive attitude. Michael?s presence should only enhance that. His energy can set the tone for our second unit, and if he can pick up his scoring where he left off last year, he can be one of the league?s top sixth men.?
