New Jersey or San Antonio? Kenyon Martin or Tim Duncan? Cold weather or warm weather? Eastern conference or Western conference? New Jersey or San Antonio?

Those are all questions that probably have been going through Nets'free-agent-to-be Jason Kidd's head for the past year.

However, things took any interesting turn towards Kidd staying with the Nets next season.

Fred Kerber of the New York Post reports: Yesterday, Kidd made his intentions known.

He plans on staying a New Jersey Net.

"I've said my intentions are to stay in New Jersey. That's my No. 1 choice. We'll play it out and see what happens," Kidd said. "I'm 100 percent to stay. That's it. So we'll see what happens."

Kidd has always mentioned that factors in him staying would include getting a maximum contract, being sure team president Rod Thorn would stick around, being able to watch the development of Kenyon Martin and Richard Jefferson and most of all, his team would have to have a legitimate shot at an NBA Championship.

When asked what would drive him away, Kidd was stumped.

"Honestly, I haven't even thought about it," Kidd said.

Thorn and head coach Byron Scott were happy to hear the news but Thorn wasn't completely satisfied.

Obviously, nothing said, stated or claimed now means anything in the long run. "It's great to hear," said Thorn, "but until it happens, it doesn't mean anything."

"It makes me feel good [hearing that]," Scott said. "He's the cornerstone of this franchise. He's the best thing that ever happened to this franchise."

So, will Kidd really stay? We will find out in about 3 1/2 months on July 16th, the first day that free agents can sign contracts.
