The Mavericks have tried Raef LaFrentz as a starter and as a reserve against San Antonio and still haven't found the best way to use the 6-11 center.

LaFrentz had 15 points in Game 1 as a starter and just two points coming off the bench in Game 2. Coach Don Nelson went back to LaFrentz starting Game 3 with a concern about foul trouble.

"I can't hide him because if he doesn't guard a good player, Dirk [Nowitzki] has to," Nelson said. "And he hasn't done a very good job staying out of foul trouble. Our game plan is to be aggressive. We're caught between a rock and hard place."
