The Washington Wizards interviewed former Maryland star Len Elmore yesterday for their president of basketball operations vacancy and received clearance to interview Boston General Manager Chris Wallace, sources confirmed.

The Wizards hope to hire someone to run basketball operations soon and apparently have ratcheted up their approach with the June 26 draft approaching and the list of available coaching candidates -- Washington must fill that void as well -- dwindling. Owner Abe Pollin has said he plans to let the president of basketball operations select the next coach.

Jeff Van Gundy, Rick Carlisle, Mike Dunleavy and New Jersey Nets assistant Eddie Jordan, who is from Washington, are considered the top coaching candidates. Van Gundy and Dunleavy are finalists for the Houston job and Jordan's interview with the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday was said to have gone well by league sources.
