It's just as well the talent pool at this week's predraft camp isn't as deep as in years past, because Bulls operations chief John Paxson won't be focused exclusively on the draft prospects.

Like all of the executives, Paxson will be gauging trade interest. Paxson can package his No. 7 pick in a variety of ways, most likely with point guard Jay Williams. The only players Paxson isn't likely to offer are Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler, and to a lesser extent, Jamal Crawford.

Paxson is looking for an athletic small forward with strong defensive skills. Memphis' Shane Battier is considered available because the Grizzlies acquired Mike Miller last season. With Curry, Chandler, Crawford and Jalen Rose, the Bulls don't need another player looking to score, and Battier is considered a strong role player.

But the Grizzlies don't need a point guard, so when Paxson visits Memphis president Jerry West tonight at Moody Bible Institute's gym, expect Marcus Fizer's name to surface in any discussion for Battier. Fizer is recovering from ACL surgery, and while his left knee is progressing, he's going to need to work off some weight.

Paxson also might wander in the direction of Sacramento president Geoff Petrie to inquire about Hedo Turkoglu. He might also talk to Pacers president Donnie Walsh about a deal involving Williams and the No. 7 pick for Al Harrington.

''It's the only time you have every team in one place, so there are a lot of things you can do in terms of talking to people,'' Paxson said. ''I'm sure there is going to be a lot of dialogue.''
