Jason Kidd has been intentionally vague about his plans for next season. We know this: He will opt out of his current deal with the Nets and wait for New Jersey and the Spurs to wage their anticipated tug of war for his services.

''That [meaning the result of the game] has no bearing on what I will decide this summer,'' said Kidd after last night's 88-77 Spurs victory. ''I've got to find a way - I play this game to win. This is my second time coming short so I've got to find a team, or stay with the Nets, that has a better chance of winning that championship trophy.''

After Game 5 in New Jersey, when the Nets went down, 3-2, he was asked if he had thought about it possibly being his final home game in a Nets uniform.

Kidd went wire to wire in that one. He had 29 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and only 2 turnovers. His team still lost.

''I gave it everything I had,'' Kidd said. ''I tried to compete at the highest level and I'll sleep good because I left everything out there. If that happens to be the case, I thought I played a pretty good game, if that was my last game here. So we'll see.''
