Eddie Jordan, a Washington native who played basketball for Archbishop Carroll High School, will be named head coach of the Washington Wizards, league sources confirmed.

Jordan, who has spent the past four seasons as the lead assistant coach of the New Jersey Nets, agreed to a four-year deal yesterday after interviewing with team owner Abe Pollin and President Susan O'Malley, sources said. Financial terms were not available.

Pollin, O'Malley and Jordan could not be reached to comment yesterday.

Jordan, 48, will be the Wizards' seventh coach -- not counting two interim head coaches -- in eight seasons. He replaces Doug Collins, who was fired by Pollin in late May after consecutive 37-45 seasons. Before hiring Jordan, the Wizards tried to lure former Philadelphia 76ers coach Larry Brown and ex-New York Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy, who accepted jobs in Detroit and Houston, respectively.
