In basketball's lexicon, Carl English is commonly referred to as a combination guard.

No matter the distinction, the Canadian hoopster is distinguishing himself in front of some of the league's most discerning eyes in the frantic days leading up to next Thursday's NBA draft.

English, known for his outside shot, wasn't given much of a shot to get drafted when he made his name available for the annual selection earlier this year.

NBA teams can measure verticals, time lateral quickness and test for body fat, but English brings qualities to the table that aren't easily measured.

"The kid's a fighter, a battler and when you say he can't do something, it gives Carl added incentive to do it,'' Raptors assistant and national team coach Jay Triano said of English, who worked out for the NBA club yesterday.
