With negotiations in the final stages, Don Nelson said he will probably sign his new contract to coach the Mavericks for the next three years prior to Thursday's NBA Draft.

The contract is being reviewed by lawyers, but neither Nelson nor owner Mark Cuban expects any snags.

"I've been offered a three-year extension to coach the Mavericks and we're working the details out," Nelson said Sunday. "Things are going along nicely.

"I'm not anticipating any problems with it. Mark wants me back and I want to be back, so you can imagine that we'll figure out a way to make it work."

Cuban told the Star-Telegram on June 2 that he was willing to meet Nelson's request and offer him a three-year contract to continue as coach, and both parties have agreed it was only a matter of time before a deal would be struck. Nelson also would continue as the Mavericks' general manager for the next three seasons, then work five years as a team consultant.
