Rod Thorn, the Nets' president, will accept phone calls from league executives on draft day as usual, but one call will draw more interest than any young shooter, backup point guard or big man the Nets are coveting at No. 22 in tonight's draft.

Thorn said yesterday that he planned to talk to Jeff Schwartz, the agent for Jason Kidd, to determine Kidd's plans when he becomes a free agent on Tuesday.

"I think he knows what his game plan is," Thorn said on a teleconference. "He knows exactly what he's doing. And where he's going to go with it. We'll just have to see how it's going to play out."

Thorn said he was not aware of Kidd's plans. "I don't know if he's decided where exactly he wants to play," Thorn said, "but I'll know shortly."
