The Grizzlies summer-league team heads to Los Angeles today for the start of a nine-game schedule at Long Beach State, beginning Monday, over the next two weeks.

Along the way, the Griz hope to inject more pressing defenses than they showed last season when all they basically did was zone press.

The five minicamp sessions at Rhodes College, which ended Saturday night, were spiced with man-to-man, trapping full-court defense.

"You're only as good as the guys you have on the floor," Grizzlies coach Hubie Brown said, "and last year our second unit was a good zone trapping team. But we've drafted some quick guys and we're high on a few of these free agents, and we thought it (man-to-man pressing) might be a good way to play this summer."

Griz assistant Lionel Hollins, who will coach the summer-league team, said he has been pleasantly surprised with what he has seen so far.

"This group has a natural tendency to play aggressive defense," Hollins said. "These guys like to get after it."
