Former Detroit Pistons coach Rick Carlisle, reached by phone on Wednesday, declined to be quoted on the Bucks' coaching position.

But he indicated that he was pursuing a job as a television commentator for the 2003-'04 season, and it was apparent he would not become a candidate for the Bucks' job. Carlisle, who led the Detroit Pistons to the best record in the Eastern Conference last season, was given a $2.9 million buyout by the Pistons when they decided to fire him and hire Brown.

Carlisle was named the NBA coach of the year in his first season as a head coach, after leading the Pistons to a 50-32 record during the 2001-'02 season.
