The Seattle SuperSonics and the city of Seattle are in the preliminary stages of what could be a $4.6 million refurbishment of KeyArena - with the possibility of an even larger project in the future.

In a document co-written by the Sonics and the city, Seattle Center recently sent out requests for Statements of Qualification from firms that would be willing to design and build the changes.

The document, obtained by The News Tribune, is called a "Concept Plan and Program for Enhancements to KeyArena." It is a five-page explanation of what the city and the Sonics have in mind.

"As we now begin to take a look further into the future," the document reads, "we seek to look more broadly at potential longer-term enhancements to KeyArena. For the Seattle Sonics to be financially successful and the KeyArena to be competitive as the continuing home of Seattle Sonics basketball, we anticipate the need to make enhancements to the facility and expand the amenities available to patrons of the building."
