Free agent guard Rafer Alston signed with the Miami Heat on Thursday, giving coach Pat Riley the point guard he had been looking for after signing Lamar Odom last week.

The 6-2 point guard averaged 7.8 points, 4.1 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 47 games with Toronto last season. Alston signed a 10-day contract with the Raptors last season and was later signed for the remainder of the season.

Alston will help back up rookie Dwyane Wade, the Heat's first round pick this season, at the point. He will be part of a four-guard set with Caron Butler and Eddie Jones next season.
