Maybe when he decides to get out of the basketball business, Pistons President Joe Dumars can pursue his true calling, as an envoy or an international arbitrator for the United Nations.

He won't talk about it much, but Dumars played an integral role in brokering the buyout deal between rookie Darko Milicic and his Serbian team, Hemofarm.

"No, no, that was all Marc," Dumars said on Friday, referring to Milicic's agent Marc Cornstein.

The reality is, discussions between Cornstein and Hemofarm had reached an impasse. There was acrimony and distrust at both ends of the table. Enter Dumars.

"I think it would've been resolved eventually, but we hit a stumbling block and Joe was fantastic," Cornstein said. "He came in as a person that obviously I respected, but he was a person the people from Hemofarm respected, also. He came up with some creative ideas and we were able to work the thing through. Joe was a key player."
