With a week to go before the start of training camp, the Seattle SuperSonics received several pieces of news that will bring varying degrees of reaction.

First, even after six weeks of rehabilitation, the Sonics say first-round draft pick Luke Ridnour has not recovered enough from offseason surgery to participate in the opening stages of training camp.

That information was somewhat offset by the announcement that the team has added former All-Star Jack Sikma to its coaching staff.

Ridnour had surgery to repair a pulled abdominal muscle on Aug. 6. At the time, the Sonics said the injury would take three to four weeks to rehabilitate and that Ridnour was expected to be at training camp.

However, on Thursday, Sonics general manager Rick Sund said Ridnour was not ready. Sund said he does not have an exact time frame for Ridnour's return.

"He claims he feels terrific and fine," Sund said. "He has been coming to our facility and working out every day. But I don't know if he will start training camp. He will be limited. But I expect him to be ready opening day."
