WESH NewsChannel 2 sports director Pat Clarke is reporting  that the Orlando Magic are set to dismiss general manager John Gabriel.

Team executives have called a staff meeting tomorrow when they are expected to announce the news to employees. Former NHL'er and team Chief Operating Officer John Weisbrod is expected to fill in the role until a permanent replacement is found.

John Gabriel had been associated with the organization from it's beginning. He worked his way up from the position of scout, to VP of Basketball Operations under Pat Williams, finally taking over the GM position in the summer of 1996. His highlight in the office came about in the summer of 2000 when he signed prized free agents Grant Hill and Tracy Mcgrady to long term contracts. He had made 55 transaction involving 51 players in order to free up the necessary cap space. He was named NBA's Executive of the Year following the 1999-2000 campaign.
