Could John Starks take a prominent position in the Knicks organization again? Willis Reed announced yesterday he is leaving the franchise as its special advisor to join New Orleans to be closer to his ailing mother in Louisiana, Starks told The Post he'd love to fill Reed's post.

As one of the franchise's most popular players, he was surrounded by Knick jerseys yesterday as Starks conducted a shooting instructional seminar at the Knicks' summer basketball camp for kids at Island Garden.

Starks said afterward he hasn't talked to Isiah Thomas. "No question, I'd love to sit down and talk to them about some position within the organization," said Starks, who finished coaching his second season in the USBL with the Westchester Wildfire. "At some point, I'm pretty sure I'll be talking to the Knicks."
