In the proposed contract for Kenyon Martin, there will be a hefty signing bonus to frontload the deal, a 15% trade kicker, and of course the maximum permissible salary under the cap.

The Nets are poised to receive the Nuggets' big offer to Martin.

"It's fair to say all those elements will be present," Denver GM Kiki Vandeweghe said yesterday. "We'll present it either today or tomorrow."

The Nuggets were not able to work a sign-and-trade for Martin so this is the end result.  They will tender an offer to Martin and hope he signs.  Then the Nets will have 15 days to match and keep Martin, or lose him altogether.

"We have not been able to make a deal," Net CEO Rod Thorn said. "So we'll get the offer sheet and then determine what we're going to do."

The growing belief is that the Nets will in fact match.  But nobody knows for sure.  In the meantime, New Jersey will look to dump Kerry Kittles to free up some cash.

All attempts at a sign-and-trade deal have failed.  According to reports, the Nuggets even offered to pay off the remaining salary of Alonzo Mourning to sweeten the deal for the Nets.  Now they will load Martin's offer with a lot of undesirable components to make the Nets less likely to match.
