Michael Curry, a 6-6 small forward from Georgia Southern University signed with the team today, and Tremaine Fowlkes was waived. Curry, 36, played for Kevin O'Neill in Toronto last season and for Rick Carlisle in Detroit the previous two seasons. Carlisle is the Pacers' head coach; O'Neill is one of his assistants.

Curry, who also serves as President of the National Basketball Players Association, is in his 12th season. Though he has modest career averages (20.0 minutes, 4.6 points, 1.6 rebounds) he has a reputation as a strong defender and leadership figure.

He started 152 games for Carlisle in his two seasons in Detroit. The Pistons traded him to Toronto for Lindsey Hunter in August 2003 and he started 15 games for the Raptors. Curry is expected to be in uniform Tuesday night when the Pacers play the Hawks in Atlanta.

Fowlkes appeared in eight games with the Pacers, averaging 7.0 minutes and 2.4 points.
