The Charlotte Bobcats today signed shooting guard Matt Carroll, it was announced by Bobcats General Manager and Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff.  In a related move, the Bobcats placed Steve Smith on the injured list due to right knee tendinitis.

?We like Matt?s ability to shoot the ball, and his innate competitiveness,? Bickerstaff said.  "The guy can score and he can really shoot the basketball.?

Carroll topped the National Basketball Development League (NBDL) with 20.1 points in 24 games for Roanoke.  He also averaged 2.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals in 31.7 minutes.  He scored an NBDL season-high 43 points against the Florida Flame on February 9 and was named NBDL Player of the Month in January after averaging 22.3 points.  After January 1, he led Roanoke to a 14-4 record and into first place in the NBDL.

"I am elated to join the Charlotte Bobcats and I want to thank Bernie Bickerstaff for showing confidence in me to compete at the NBA level,? Carroll said.  ?I will work hard and contribute to this team in whatever way is asked.?
