Connecticut signee and McDonald's all-American center Andrew Bynum will stay in the NBA draft, even though he doesn't have a guarantee he'll be in the lottery, his brother Corey Thomas told ESPN.com Sunday night.

Thomas said he also told Connecticut assistant coach Tom Moore that his brother would remain in the draft and not play for the Huskies next season. (Moore confirmed Thomas' statement to ESPN.com late Sunday night.) Thomas said his brother was expected to call Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun and tell him the same thing.

The deadline to withdraw from the NBA draft is Tuesday. The draft is June 28 in New York.

Bynum, a 7-foot center who averaged 22 points, 16 boards and five blocks at St. Joseph High (N.J.), would have competed for a starting position with the Huskies, possibly playing alongside rising junior Josh Boone for a team expected to contend for the national title.

Bynum canceled two workouts for next week, scheduled for Toronto and New York. Thomas said Bynum's workouts went so well last week that he didn't feel he needed any more before the draft. Thomas wouldn't confirm the teams but at least one source told ESPN.com that Bynum worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers. Bynum held a league-wide workout in New York on June 4. The majority of teams attended the workout, meaning that they didn't have to bring him in for a workout to their team.

"We're confident that he's going to be a lottery pick,'' Thomas said.
