Two key members of the Denver Nuggets are lukewarm on rumors that the team may be interested in Dallas shooting guard Michael Finley.

"Instead of signing (Finley), we (should) sign the guys we already have," Kenyon Martin said Wednesday at a basketball camp organized by fellow Nugget Carmelo Anthony. Martin said the Nuggets "should be one of those teams where they keep everybody together."

Earlier this week, Anthony expressed reservations about having Finley as a teammate. He said he likes the "core nucleus of the team" and "to keep changing teams, I don't think that's too good."

Finley might be let go by Aug. 15, the so-called amnesty deadline for teams to release a player and not have his salary count against the NBA's luxury tax. Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe declined comment on Finley.

"One of the things we're looking to see is what happens with the amnesty and who gets let go," Vandeweghe said. "It's a unique year."

DerMarr Johnson started 40 games last season at shooting guard for Denver. Martin expressed displeasure that the Nuggets haven't reached a deal to retain Johnson, a fellow Cincinnati alumni.

"I'm a little disappointed they didn't sign DerMarr yet," Martin said. "He helped us win games. That's what it's all about. ... I would love for (Johnson to re-sign) sooner rather than later, not like last year with him going to training camp (on a non-guaranteed contract).

"If he gets another offer, that's great, but I want to see him with us. . . . Nothing against Michael Finley, but (Johnson) can play."

Vandeweghe said he was interested in bringing back Johnson and guard Greg Buckner.

"But this is a business," he said. "I know that everybody, including Kenyon, knows that you do your best to try to get your guys back. It doesn't always happen, but I think there is a pretty good chance of getting back those guys."
